Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

HyCrew collects the following information to provide workout tracking and AI coaching features:

Account Information

Your name and email address, provided when you create an account.

Health & Fitness Data (via HealthKit)

Workout data, heart rate, distance, pace, calories, and GPS route data recorded during workouts. This data is read from Apple HealthKit with your permission.

User-Created Content

Custom workout templates and simulation configurations you create are stored on our servers so they sync across your devices and persist if you reinstall the app.

Usage Data

App interactions and screens viewed, used to improve the app experience.

Device Information

Whether you have an Apple Watch paired, and the iOS/watchOS version you are running.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide workout tracking and display your performance metrics and station split times
  • To generate personalized AI coaching insights based on your training history
  • To sync your workout data between your iPhone and Apple Watch
  • To improve app functionality and fix bugs

3. HealthKit Data

We access Apple HealthKit solely to read and display your workout data within HyCrew.

  • We do not share HealthKit data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
  • We do not use HealthKit data for advertising purposes.
  • HealthKit access is only requested with your explicit permission and can be revoked at any time via iOS Settings.

4. Data Storage & Security

All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.

Workout data is stored on secure servers (PostgreSQL on Railway).

We apply industry-standard security practices to protect your information.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data to any third parties.

AI Coaching Insights

To generate personalized coaching insights, your workout data (exercise type, splits, duration, and performance metrics) is sent to Anthropic's Claude API. This data is used solely to produce coaching text and is not stored or used for model training under our API agreement.

5a. AI Features & Third-Party Processors

HyCrew offers optional AI-powered coaching insights. This feature requires your explicit consent before activation. You will be prompted in the app the first time an AI feature is available, and you can enable or disable AI insights at any time in Settings → AI Settings.

The AI provider is Anthropic, PBC (anthropic.com).

What data is shared

When AI insights are enabled, HyCrew's backend server shares the following with Anthropic (Claude AI):

  • Workout performance metrics: duration, distance, heart rate (average/max), calories burned
  • Workout segment and station split times (for HYROX and Yoddha simulations)
  • Aggregated historical performance: personal bests, station medians, training trends
  • Training context you have configured: experience level, race date, training streak, weekly workout count

What we do NOT share

  • Your name, email address, or account identifiers
  • GPS coordinates or location data
  • Device identifiers, photos, or medical records

How data is transferred

All data is sent from HyCrew's backend servers to Anthropic's Claude API. Your device never connects to Anthropic directly. All transfers use encrypted HTTPS connections.

Anthropic's data practices

Anthropic does not use API data to train its models under our API agreement. API request logs are retained for up to 30 days for safety monitoring, after which they are deleted.

Your control

Enable or disable AI insights at any time in Settings → AI Settings. Disabling stops all data sharing with Anthropic immediately. You will continue to receive standard training tips generated locally. If you have not consented, no data is ever shared with Anthropic or any other AI provider.

6. Your Rights

Access

View all your stored workout and account data at any time.

Deletion

Delete your account and all associated data via Settings → Data & Privacy → Delete Account.

Export

Request an export of your complete workout history.

Revoke Permissions

Revoke HealthKit access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy → Health.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all associated data — including workout history, account information, and AI coaching history — is permanently deleted from our servers.

8. Children's Privacy

HyCrew is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via email or an in-app notification before the changes take effect. Continued use of HyCrew after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
